Church in Pike County, Kentucky, Bans Interracial Couples

Well, the church is in Kentucky, but seriously, you would hope that with a bi-racial President in the White House, at least the churches in Kentucky would allow interracial couples who wish to pray and worship….you would at least expect that the church members could have sufficient compassion in their hearts to allow that.

Image via Wikipedia. What would Jesus do? Somehow, I don't think someone with "hair like wool" and feet the color of "burnt brass" would ban interracial couples from prayer. But then again, Jesus might be perceived as appearing bi-racial, and this church might not like that, either.

Nope. Get to steppin’ interracial couples! That’s the message from the “kindly” Christian folks at the Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church in Pike County, Kentucky.

Maybe the church’s pastor can’t overrule the church’s parishioners or something like that, but integrity would also suggest that he could just as easily refuse to ban church members on the basis of race as well, and stand up for equality and justice. Maybe expecting fairness and compassion from a pastor of a church these days is too much.

But, that’s just my opinion. What do I know? I don’t live in Kentucky and wouldn’t be welcome at Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church, anyway, since I’m in an interracial marriage.

Here’s a link to the story, straight from our friends at WYMT TV in Kentucky!
