Who Loves You, Baby?

Harold & Kumar’s Latest Film

In Entertainment, Movies on November 6, 2011 at 6:41 pm

I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t think the Harold & Kumar franchise of comedy buddy films aren’t funny. Some people bemoan the films‘ racial comedy, the sexism in the films, the drug use, and inappropriate comments; but most people think the films are hilarious.

All three films are great fun, full of racial stereotypes, sexism, violence, drug use, profanity. And all three are funny.

Now, the third film in the series is finally out, and in 3D, no less.

Not only is it nice to see a film series featuring a long-standing friendship between an Indian man, an Chinese man, and the misadventures of a super-sexualized Neal Patrick Harris (NPH); but it’s a welcome occurrence indeed to know that the film you’re going to see will actually be worth the cost of admission.

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Image via Wikipedia. This was Harold & Kumar's last film, the second in what is (so far) a trilogy.

Harold, the Chinese man, is married to a sultry Latina while Kumar, the stoner Indian medical genius is dating/engaged to a Caucasian woman, and NPH is just attracted to anything that moves.  The ethnic and racial stereotype jokes are spot-on, and while everyone in the film (even a baby) uses enough marijuana, cocaine, and ecstasy to cause cardiac arrest in a yak; it’s still good fun.

It’s guarnteed to make you forget anything else going on the world for those two hours you’re in the theater, and it’s also (in my mind) a decent way to support interracial relationships and friendships in modern cinema.

So, here’s a link to a current review of the film:

  1. Harold is not Chinese. He is Korean.
